Ok, look at me, I'm working on a webpage! All by myself...uh...with a little help. Well, a LOT of help, I don't know how to work this in-ter-net thingy. :) So, first I want to thank Rob for setting this up for me, it kicks butt. I'd use stronger language, but man, my MOM comes here. Next, I'd like to apologize for the length of this update because it's going to be 12 days long. So...here goes!
March 10 - as Rob mentioned, Brianna (also known as Cheese, Pumpkinhead, Squeaker, Spaz...lots of stuff) was born at 2:05pm via c-section. She weighed 1.740kg which equals 3 pounds, 13 ounces. And that's the only conversion you're going to get, because the hospital works in metric...and since we ARE Canadian, so should we. The actual birth experience was icky, so I won't go into that. Also, you should know at 1.8kg she gets out of the incubator/isolette, and at 2kg she can come home (as long as she is also sucking properly). Now, they also put an IV in her, and with the IV paraphenalia (the white thing on her arm in some of the photos) she weighed 1.790kg. Lots of people came to visit her, many bearing gifts (yay!). I was pretty out of it, because the hospital was giving me morphine (!!). Later, when I found out that my 'pain killer' was morphine I stopped taking it, and started becoming a little more coherant.
March 11 - weight: 1.725kg (w/ IV)
I was still out of it, so this is all I got for this day.
March 12 - weight: 1.635kg (w/ IV)
Bri started feeding through her lovely nasogastrc tube (through her nose to her tummy) and got up to 9cc's (mL) of milk/formula.
March 13 - weight: 1.645kg (w/ IV)
They took her IV off today. And she was up to 15cc's.
March 14 - weight: 1.640kg
Had a slight bout of heart apnea, so they started giving her some medication for it. Since going on the meds, she hasn't had a repeat. Heart apnea is when Bri's heartrate slows down to an unacceptable level. It only happened once, so it's no cause for alarm. Someone (either the pediatrician or a nurse) told me that 99% of premies are on this stuff. Up to 27cc's of milk/formula.
March 15 - weight: 1.655kg
Up to 40cc's, and she got to try her first bottle today!! Big step for her. Also, I got to leave the hospital, which was good, but not, all at the same time.
March 16 - weight: 1.670kg
Got two bottles today (they were giving her one a shift), but she was having a hard time keeping her food down, so they decided to stop giving her bottles, and reduce her fluid intake to 36cc's, which is what she still is at.
March 17 - weight: 1.680kg
Bri hits a week old! I couldn't beleive it, it all seemed to happen so fast. We went out and spent a whole pile of money on things she needed.
March 18 - weight: 1.675kg
March 19 - weight: 1.715kg
Bri has become much more active. She used to sleep a whole lot, but now she's awake when we come to her feedings. She can scrunch her face up pretty good, and hates the flash on the camera.
March 20 - weight: 1.775kg
Bri was able to actually latch on to the breast. Hopefully, this isn't too much information for anyone. :)
March 21 - weight: 1.705kg
Bri did the boob thing again, and is getting better at it.
We are off right now to go and see her, so I will post another update about how she is doing tonight when I get her weight!!!
