Bri went to the hospital again (as in, for the second time in her life) on Monday night. She woke up crying her little eyeballs out about a tummy ache. I went to the 24 hour mart up the street, and they had nothing. So I called Telehealth (silly me) to see what would be the best thing to buy for her, since I figured I'd be headed to a pharmacy next. Telehealth asked if she had fallen down at all, and when does Bri not fall down? Actually, that day she managed to pitch herself down the two stairs leading to the backroom. She bruised her arm, but seemed ok to me. Telehealth nurse is now convinced Bri has internal bleeding or something and she needs to go to the hospital pronto.
Side note on Telehealth - Ontario would save a lot of money paying nurses if Telehealth was nothing but a prompt saying go to the hospital. Everytime I call them, this is what they tell me.
Anyhoo, I pack the weasel up (still crying at this point) and bum a ride to the hospital (we had company, of course, and Mike had a few beer). Approximately 3.5 seconds after being placed in her carseat, Bri is FINE. Talking, laughing, etc. I take her to the hospital anyways since Telehealth said they'd fax over what I told them, and I don't want to be charged with neglect or something. ;) I decide to wait 1/2 an hour to be admitted before I figure I'll just take her home. 25 minutes in, they call me. Heh. Then we wait in the other waiting room while they try to figure out which one of the faking children is actually sick. Heh. There was happy Bri, kid with a fever running all over, a baby with no apparent problems, and a teen with no apparent problems.
Doc pokes Bri's stomach, all is fine. Doc wants her to pee in a cup. Hmm. Bri does not want to pee in a cup. Took 20 minutes of convincing to get her to do so. They let her press the go button on the pee stick reader though.
End result is that she had an elevated white blood cell count, which may or may not indicate an infection. They were supposed to call today if she did have an infection, and so far I haven't heard from them.
Wheeee.
